There are four different Pipe categories  found throughout the North American continent and used by the Native American peoples.

1)
PEACE PIPE - This was used only to "seal a contract of peace between two parties, to send this agreement to the creator as a bond.
2)
WAR PIPE - This was smoked between the warriors within the tribe to show agreement with each other that war was necessary for redemption in one way or another.  This was a bond.
3)
MEDICINE PIPE - This was used for healing, and was smoked with healing herbs. Healing in the physical and spiritual sense.
4)
PERSONAL PIPE - This was made purely for personal smoking pleasure.  Of all the pipes, this is the only one made by the user.

All of the other pipes are to be made with prayer and ceremony and are given with great respect for the intended user.
THE PIPE
Personal pipes used by Wendat Ancestors
Each Wendat man who used tabac had a small garden near his longhouse which he tended himself.  They carried their own pipe and tabac pouch which was slung over their shoulder with the pouch on their backside.  It was frequently adorned with beads or quill.
