Winter Daze

This is a typical day from November through December.  I love these hazy, dazy gray days.  The snow piles high and lays like a rumpled blanket over the village.  Mounds of snow, creeping snow, comforting snow..........the summer is warm beneath the snow.

Just another part of the Kotzebue Village.  From this angle, we can see the corner of the streets, Caribou and Ptarmigan.  Beyond that is a frozen lagoon where the ground  melts into the vast tundra.

During the Winter months, we are snug inside our homes.  We visit each other, sing songs, play music and dance.  Many women sew skins and make hats, coats or mukluks (native shoes made from animal skins such as caribou).  We also like to crochet or knit socks.  Homemade socks are the warmest and most comfortable for the long hard winters.
