Living in a Mountain Valley
Skip Rocks
Skip rocks across
A crystal surface
To watch rainbows rise
From trembling waters.

Look up
Let eyes arise
To the heavenly surface
Where the fish hawk flies.

Reach out
With palms turned up
To be touched
By the rippling wind.

Listen to song
Coming from eagle’s heart
Stand firm
Listen
And hear.

As mountains
Spread their legs and
From her bowels
Lay the river
On valley floor.

Shimmering waters
Flow over stones
Gripping, life-giver
Splashing throngs

Bearing the good
And the bad
Enduring through
Mountain walls
Seeking glittering scales
From oceans deep.

But here stand I
Simple pebble in hand
Tossed to skip across
The crystal face
And watch rainbows rise
From trembling waters.
