Return
There are no trees on the little pennisula of Kotzebue.  The people who have wood burning stoves have to go a distance of approximately 25 miles to get wood, or they burn the wood pallets that are filled with freight.  The wood pallets are received at the stores and the airport.
The other way to get wood is to work like an ant all summer by collecting the wood that drifts onto the beaches from the Kotzebue Sound.  The wood comes from inland and was brought to us by the water after breakup of the ice in the Spring.
